A little about World Read Aloud Day and LitWorld:

World Read Aloud Day, officially celebrated on March 3rd, is a global event created by LitWorld to motivate children, teens and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, and especially those words that are shared from one person to another.

By valuing the extraordinary impact words can have when shared, we are also raising our voices together on this day to show the world’s children that we are raising our voices for and with them: that they have the right to read, to write, to share stories and poems and to create their own. By recognizing the power of their own stories, our children can change the world. By learning to read and write by passing stories, poems and words to one another, we are sending the strong message: words change worlds.

We are advocating for education, access to books, access to technology and safe schools: sanctuaries where every child has the right to a safe and secure education that involves the beauty and delights of a story or poem told and shared.

Children who are read to are shown to have a profoundly greater chance of staying in school and doing well in school.

Access to books and technology is critical for all children. But we also must be sure that entire communities rally behind the cause of reading and the power of words. It is the only way we will break the cycle of illiteracy worldwide. Together, we can form together with our voices an unbreakable link from one generation to the next.
